The Gorkha township is the headquarters of the district of the same name. Prithvi Narayan Shah who was the founder of modern Nepal took birth in this place, hence it is the ancient home of Shah KIngs of Nepal. Gorkha is situated on a hill overlooking the snowy 
peaks of the himalayas. Gorkha Durbar, the wonderful old palace is built by King Ram Shah is also situated in this place. From this palace of Gorkha, King Prithvi Narayan Shah had began to conquer the small kingdoms and to unify the kingdom.
